140 Maida Vale

A grade II listed building Bingo Hall along with its bar, bidding halls and offices located at the northern gate of the west end of London of 1000 square meter of built area lying on 1700 square meter of free hold land, was acquired to our clients. In their turn they commissioned us to design and convert this Bingo building into an Islamic Community Centre. Changing the use into an Islamic Centre of a grade II Baroque type Architecture was the real challenge. Islam has itself self styled Architectural spirit so did the Baroque period of Architecture. We had to marry the two to produce a very unique building where Muslims could not be offended by the Baroque heritage and at the same time feel at home when entering the building. Thus it was the Islamic Centre England which contains ground floor hall of 10metres high able to accommodate 700 seated persons, a first floor hall for 200 persons, a library at the top floors and ancillary offices and a restaurant.
